Regional resource specialization means a region concentrates on a small set of natural resources, and that focus shapes the kinds of jobs, industries, and communities that develop there. In Canada, this happens because the land and climate determine what resources are available and how profitable it is to extract or grow them. For example, Alberta’s economy has long centered on oil and gas, Saskatchewan on farming and potash, and British Columbia on forestry and mining. When a region focuses on these resources, people gain skills and businesses build around extraction, processing, and related services, creating place-specific economic patterns.

The other ideas don’t fit as well. A region that spreads attention across many resources equally wouldn’t be specialized. Saying a region exports nothing or avoids technology ignores how resource industries rely on markets and modern technology to operate.
